Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria - Scene 1 · October 2005

This animation depicts the pathophysiology of Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) where a defect in the GPI anchor of protective cell surface proteins causes the cell to be more susceptible to attack by the complement system. This scene focuses on the binding of the membrane attack complex to an RBC followed by induced rupture of the cell membrane, resulting in hemolytic anemia. This movie represents an animatic state of the animation process where the motion and timing are determined and critiqued. Upon approval of the animatic and high-quality rendered stills, the animation will proceed to the next step where it is fully rendered and taken to post-production.
